What is it?

Soar! is a free, optional careers and employability workshop programme designed specifically for students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds. It’s here to help you build confidence, access experience, and take your next steps with support that works for you.
 

Who is Soar! for?

Anyone! but If you’ve experienced barriers to education or work - Soar! is for you. For example you are the first in your family at university, have caring responsibilities, have faced discrimination, or from a low-income background.
Some students on Soar! identify as disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, care-experienced, refugees, or mature students. If you’re unsure, if these workshops apply to you, please just ask.

What You’ll Get from Soar!

Soar! is here to support you throughout your time at university, in a way that works for your needs and schedule. Our workshops are practical and supportive and unravel topics like:
  • Overcoming imposter syndrome at work and University.
  • Disclosing details of your disability to employers: Whether to, when to and how to.
  • Preparing for interviews and assessment centres as a disabled applicant.
  • Overcoming setbacks and building resilience.

FAQ

  • How much time do I need to commit?
Workshops are 45-55 minutes long and are flexible. You can attend one workshop or build your own programme alongside our Accelerate workshops.
  • Are events online or in person?
Both! Many activities are offered online, with recordings available.
