We invite you to a special screening of Ernest Cole: Lost and Found – a compelling documentary that explores the life and legacy of South African photographer Ernest Cole.
Known for his courageous work documenting the harsh realities of apartheid, Cole's striking images challenged injustice and brought global attention to racial oppression. His powerful photo collection, House of Bondage, was published in 1967, but his original negatives remained lost for decades.
“Anything I say cannot be written in the newspapers, but that doesn’t matter.
It’ll stand in the future because I’m sure South Africa will be free.â€
– Ernest Cole
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro) and narrated by actor LaKeith Stanfield, this film unearths the forgotten story of an artist who risked everything in pursuit of truth and justice.
We are honoured to welcome Arezoo Farahzad as our guest speaker to introduce the screening. A respected community leader and Chair of the Board of Trustees at the ²ÝùÊÓƵ Centre for Faiths and Cultural Diversity, Arezoo offers a unique perspective rooted in her spiritual and cultural heritage.
This screening was originally planned for the Spring Equinox, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21 March), which also coincided with Naw-Ruz, the Bahá’à and Iranian New Year. The values at the heart of Naw-Ruz, particularly the elimination of racial prejudice and promotion of unity, powerfully align with the themes of this film and the significance of this international observance.
