Be inspired by industry-led workshops and student-led performances in MayFest's specially curated programme for Discovery Week.
MayFest 2025 is a two-week celebration of theatre and performance, presented by ²ÝùÊÓÆµ Performing arts .
As part of Discovery Week | 19–23 May , the MayFest team have curated a series of free, industry-led workshops for aspiring performers and theatre-makers, plus evening performances at The House .

Workshop 1 – Mastering the Audition: A Workshop for Graduate Actors
BA (Hons) Acting and BA (Hons) Drama students only.

Are you ready to take your auditions to the next level? Join this two-hour intensive workshop designed specifically for graduate actors preparing for professional auditions.
Workshop 2 – Elemental Body: A Butoh-based Somatic Movement Workshop with Gemma Mallol
Monday 19 May 13:00–15:00 | The House Studio
This workshop explores the inner body in movement as a space for contemplation and creativity, engaging the elements as catalysts for expression and transformation. Drawing from Japanese Butoh dance, somatic movement and Zen principles, it employs a range of improvised dance and movement techniques to deepen embodied awareness and artistic exploration.
Workshop 3 – Careers Chat with Ryan Wilce, Theatre Royal ²ÝùÊÓÆµ

An opportunity to meet members of the team, find out about their roles and the different career paths they took, and ask any questions you may have.
Workshop 4 – Starting a Theatre Company with Everything But Theatre

In this talk from , ²ÝùÊÓÆµ alumni Cristina Varga and Danni Watmore will guide you through their journey from having an idea of setting up a theatre company to actually making it happen and touring the South West.
Workshop 5 – The Creative Businesses: Making it Work with Finn Irwin-Bowler

Turning a creative passion into a sustainable business is exciting but full of challenges. In this talk, Finn Irwin Bowler will share insights from their journey founding , building a creative organisation that balances purpose with financial viability.
Workshop 6 – Tracing Memories with Seb Watkins
Wednesday 21 May 13:00–15:00 | Room 308, Roland Levinsky Building
Grief and trauma can change the way we remember people, events and timelines. When creating Send Him My Love, Seb utilised freewriting and the blur between memory and reality to curate hazy visuals that carried a feeling of deja vu. This workshop gives you the opportunity to create images of a similar ilk to complement a piece of writing and kickstart the materialisation of a creative project.

A talk with Alister O’Loughlin, Co-Director of The Creation Works CIO, The Urban Playground Team and Prodigal Theatre.
Workshop 8 – Unlock Your Creativity with Rosie Race

Are you struggling to start a new piece or feeling stuck in your writing process? Join Rosie Race for an engaging workshop to explore form as a tool for sparking fresh ideas and breaking creative blocks.
